Student Union BOKU

Student Union BOKU was founded in 1945 as the legal representation body of the students at the university. The Student Union BOKU is an independent legal body with own statues based on Austrian federal law. A membership at the student union at their university is compulsory for all students. The membership fee is used to cover financing all activities at the university as well as activities at federal level of the Austrian National Students Union. The fact that the student union gets its budget through the students ensures that the student union is independent from universities interests. At the moment there are about 100 students working for the Student Union BOKU. Main objectives of Student Unions in Austria on the university level but also on the federal level is to provide information and service for the students and lobbying for the students interests in negotiations with the university, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research but also the general public.
